Vaccination 101: What Every New Pet Parent Should Know

Those first few weeks with a new puppy or kitten are pure joy — and the perfect window to protect them for life. Vaccines train your pet's immune system to fight diseases that are still heartbreakingly common on Karachi's streets.

The puppy schedule

Puppies typically start at 6–8 weeks with their first combination shot (distemper, parvo, hepatitis). Boosters follow every 3–4 weeks until 16 weeks, with the rabies vaccine given around 12–14 weeks. Until the course is complete, keep your pup away from parks, street dogs, and public floors.

The kitten schedule

Kittens begin at 8–9 weeks with the feline combination vaccine (flu, enteritis), boosted at 12 weeks, plus rabies. Even indoor cats need these — viruses travel home on shoes and clothes.

"My dog never goes out, so he doesn't need vaccines." Parvovirus survives on soil and shoes for months. "Vaccines make pets sick." A sleepy afternoon is normal; the diseases they prevent are not. "One shot is enough forever." Immunity fades — annual boosters keep protection strong.
